Chapter Four

Seth tried to roll over but couldn’t. He attempted to stretch, to move his arms, his legs, but something kept him from doing so. What a strange dream. He willed himself to wake up, open his eyes, only to realize he was already awake and in a dark room.

The area slowly illuminated. He found himself bound naked to a metal table. A silhouette of a figure appeared—tall and slim, with long protrusions on its head pointing up to the sky. The figure moved closer.

The only part of him that Seth could control seemed to be his eyes, which widened as the entity stepped into full view.

A deranged-looking Easter bunny. Not just a rabbit, but a clown-rabbit blend.

The words pinged around in his head. Evan had told him a story about the clown-rabbit. No. He told me about the clown-rabbits who abducted him. The hairs on his arms rose. His throat strained from a scream he couldn’t seem to vocalize.

Big black eyes sat within a stark-white face and regarded him over a huge mouth with thin red lips. Flat ebony triangles formed above and below its eyes. Small porcupine-like quills protruded from its rabbit-like ears, while larger ones acted like whiskers on either side of its bulbous crimson nose. Evan was right, the ear quills, if he blurred his vision, looked like fuzzy hair. And from what Evan had said, he, too, doubted that particular part of the alien’s body would be soft to the touch. Evan wasn’t kidding. There were fucking space clowns, and all the alien needed was the white jumper and oversized shoes to complete the outfit.

The clown-rabbit’s sadistic expression grew. It tilted its head, then the being turned and joined another one at a kiosk console near where he lay. The second being pushed several keys. A long robotic arm swung out over Seth’s head. The piece of machinery had something that appeared like a scalpel. The dagger looking section dipped toward his arm and made a slice in his skin.

The scream that had been stuck worked loose. The aliens ignored his plaintiff cries for help. Thick, curved pieces of metal, acting as straps, wrapped around his biceps and forearms, as well as his thighs and lower legs, holding him in place. He fought against the restraints without any luck of being released.

Seth calmed as best he could in the situation. He moved his head the little that the restraints allowed. The room. It was just as Evan had described with a few variations. Rolling carts sat between him and the cabinets lining the wall. He couldn’t tell what kind of material they were made from. If he looked at them one way, the metal looked like stainless steel. If he changed his focal point a fraction, they had a pearlescent quality to them. In fact, the white walls seemed to react the same way.

Shifting, he twisted his neck to view the other side of the room and found a table lined with clear containers of what looked to be organs and red and milky fluids.
